School Choice

The Forrest City School District is one of only 21 school districts, out of 238 in Arkansas, which exempts from the Public School Choice Act of 2013.

Why? The district justifies its exemption by citing Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas (1954) and its progeny, as well as a 1969 federal court order for which it never sought resolution.

That means while the vast majority of Arkansas public schools compete for students, Forrest City traps theirs, denying students and families, 83% of which are African-American, the right to attend the public schools which best suit their needs.

If you think the students and families of Forrest City deserve better, join us at ArkansasLearns.org/ForrestCity and stand up for your rights.

Academic Distress

Out of 1,066 public schools in Arkansas, the Forrest City School District has three of the state's 26 Academic Distress Schools.

Proposed Open-Enrollment Public Charter School - KIPP Forrest City College Preparatory School

On July 21, 2014, KIPP Delta submitted its application to the Charter Authorizing Panel of the Arkansas Department of Education to create an open-enrollment public charter school in Forrest City for the 2015-16 school year.

KIPP Forrest City College Preparatory School will serve students in Grades 5-8. The school will be located within the Forrest City School District, and when at full capacity, will serve 360 students.

KIPP Forrest City College Preparatory School will offer a traditionally underserved population a strong academic program designed to prepare students to succeed at colleges throughout the nation. The school will be open to students who fill out an enrollment form, regardless of background or prior test scores. The school plans to serve low-income populations which have been traditionally underserved by other schools.

Unfortunately, the Forrest City School District has chosen to oppose the application.

To help ensure the success of the application, parental, citizen and community support must be demonstrated. To that end, please join us by:
